New iPod Touch Details

August 30, 2010

Apple is poised to make an announcement Wednesday regarding one or more new products. I thought this would be the right time to tell you what I know about the new iPod Touch.

Colored text indicates edits made after the announcement.

The new iPod Touch will be comparable in size and shape to the iPhone 4, but slightly thinner and with some coloration differences to visually differentiate the two. It is also lighter since it does not need the telephone components.

CORRECT!

It comes in various sizes, but more importantly it will be available with or without 3G access. Versions with 3G will also have GPS capabilities.

WRONG! No 3G or GPS version is available.

The A4 processor, the same design used in the iPad and iPhone 4, will be used in order to bolster computing power and lower power requirements. This, coupled with a larger battery, will give the device incredible battery life.

CORRECT! The new iPod Touch boasts of 7 hours of video playback.

A compass and a gyroscope will be in all versions, regardless of whether it is a 3G version or not.

CORRECT! and WRONG! Compasses are not included, but a gyroscope is.

With this iteration of the iPod Touch, Apple finally is adding a camera to the device, a 5 MP sensor capable of 720p video capture as well as still photos. The iMovie app for iPhone will be compatible as well. There will not be a forward facing camera, and FaceTime calls will not be possible using the iPod Touch.

CORRECT! and WRONG! 720p video capture is possible with the 5 MP camera, but a forward-facing camera and FaceTime are included.

The screen incorporates the Retina Display of the iPhone 4.

CORRECT!

Can’t wait!

Back From the Army; New Toys

May 7, 2010

So I spent the last 3.5 months in Missouri at US Army Initial Entry Training, during which I had little to no internet access. I’m back now, and I immediately went out and bought a brand new MacBook Pro, complete with upgraded 1680×1050 display, as well as a 64GB iPad. I also got a new cell phone, the Motorola Droid.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch. Only the one in the picture doesn't have the HD display that I got for mine!

Apple iPad 64GB

I’ll probably be reviewing these, as well as some new games I have and apps for all of the above. Stay tuned!

3 iPhone Apps I Want to See

December 27, 2009

So far I have loved my iPod Touch to death. That said, there are some apps I’ve looked for that simply weren’t there, and this post is a call-out to some of my favorite websites and online services that I think need to have their own official iPhone apps.

Meebo1. Meebo

This site is a great way to run all your IM accounts in a single browser window without needing to install anything on our computer. The simplicity of their design and their ability to constantly add new features and support for more protocols means they need to develop an iPhone app that’s just as easy and versatile.

Mibbit2. Mibbit

Much like Meebo, this site makes it so you don’t need to install anything on your computer, only this site is for IRC instead of IM protocols. It’s quick and easy to get going, and I think they could design a very nice iPhone app for IRC chatting.

uTorrent3. uTorrent

There is already a very nice iPhone interface available for uTorrent, but as often as it is updated it still is lacking in a lot of ways. It could seriously benefit from a real dev team instead of one poor guy trying to do everything himself. Plus, it would be nice to have an actual app instead of just a web interface.

My First iPod Touch

November 2, 2009

Well, I finally managed to get my first iPod touch. I knew if I got anything less than the 64 GB I would regret it. Thankfully, I have a Best Buy card and an employee discount to boot, so I financed most of it interest free.

By far this is the single best investment I’ve ever made. I am so completely happy. It has made life so much easier for me, plus it’s just so much fun to play with!

I’ll paste more info as I play with it.

MEGAPOST 5001?

March 7, 2009

Again, I’m tired, so here’s everything all at once. (What do you know, the internet is a big truck you just dump stuff on!)

Stargate News

deluisepeter011Looks like SciFi (or whoever is in charge over there) is doing something right and releasing Stargate Atlantis on Blu-ray. Actually, it’s just the first and last episodes, but it’s better than nothing I suppose.

Also, Peter DeLuise is apparently coming back to help direct at least one episode in Stargate Universe. You’ll probably recognize him as the guy that played the replacement actor in the episodes Wormhole X-Treme and 200. Or, if you’re a normal person, you won’t.

ThinkGeek Newstuffs

a823_laser_guided_scissorsTwo awesome watches, a new Annoy-a-Tron, even laser guided scissors (I know right)! Check it all out and buy tons of it.

New xkcd: Statistics is Screwy

Correlation doesn't imply causation, but it does waggle its eyebrows suggestively and gesture furtively while mouthing 'look over there'.

Alright, Mooch Report coming up.

Make Money and Get Free Stuff

March 2, 2009

This really is pretty cool. Hopefully you have been familiar enough with my site up until now to know that I’m not BS’ing here. I found an awesome site that will let you make money and get free gaming/computer stuff at the same time in exchange for mindless clicking. Here’s how it works:

  1. Advertisers make ads with forms to fill out.
  2. Filling out the forms gives the referrer money.
  3. This site refers you to the ads.
  4. They get money.
  5. They buy you free stuff with it.

The awesome thing is this: the site knows that the advertisers are all scumbags, so they give you tips on filling out the forms. If you get a form filler you can fill out about 30 forms per hour or so. Each one gets you a certain number of points, which you then use to get games, consoles, computer equipment, cell phones, and more.

On top of all that, you also can get money, and here’s how: you get a referral link that you can give to your friends, and if they sign up, you automatically get 20% of whatever they get each time they fill out an offer, but in actual cash. It doesn’t subtract from what they get (they won’t even know it is happening), it just means you get free cash automatically. Get some really active friends on there and you can get tons of $$$!

Anyway, it is a good idea to use a referral link to sign up, because then people can benefit even more from this, and hopefully someone will return the favor and use your link when they sign up. With that in mind, take a look at the site and if you decide that getting free stuff isn’t so bad then totally sign up.

P.S. I will leave comments unmoderated on this post so you can all see the feedback (that way you know I’m not scamming you or anything).

MEGAPOST 5000!!!11

March 1, 2009

Alright, I am tired today so I am posting a bunch of crap all at once. Mooch Report will be coming up right after this.

ThinkGeek has a sweet little system that lets you play NES and SNES games for only $50. As you can imagine they are totally sold out, so the soonest you can get it using backorder would me on the 9th. You can even plug in your old controllers, although it comes with two controllers for futuristic multiplayer action!

Retro d00d!

Retro d00d!

Also, ThinkGeek just put their Personal Area Network T-Shirt on sale for $20. Basically it lets you wire your mp3 player, cell phone, or other digitalia into a t-shirt for epic cord management. It even makes you look buff while wearing it, and hides the wires while simultaneously keeping them off your skin.

af26_personal_area_network_tshirt

There's even a mini version for your dog! Just kidding. But you can control devices through the fabric.

In other news, I broke 2000 gamerpoints on my 360 the other day. I know, I know, that’s nothing. You uberfied gamers (aka “people with no lives who live in their mother’s basement”) have 10 times that. I get laid, so I win.

Preemptive Strike: I am about to get 500 comments from Xbox 360 point-whores claiming to have lives, but still having more points than me. To them I say: screw you and screw your mother too.

P.S. If you want to track my gamerscore or see what my 360 is up to, you can do that using the little feed ticker on the bottom of my sidebar. Clicking on my gamercard will show you my progress in any game I’ve played, and the feedticker actually goes to a blog that my 360 writes. He really gets in my head sometimes, it’s weird.
